I have a book I've created, and I would like to bundle it up as a feature, so that I can version the book, deploy it to many sites, etc., just like any other feature. In general, the solution to this problem could be used for documentation/handbooks as well as for advanced help content.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to go about doing this?

I don't think Features can be used to bundle up content/nodes. I'd look at using http://drupal.org/project/deploy to push your book content to your sites. Problem is that deploy is currently a bit weak when it comes to books (which is how I got here, looking for how to make a book-like feature with Features :-)

Per-mission, Features doesn't handle content, only configuration. Deploy sounds like it could be a reasonable approach to this problem.
