When I have the fckeditor enabled by default the editor does not work and it reduced the textarea height.
Everything works fine if it is not enabled by default then toggle it enabled.

joshvalentin commentedI have this issue as well.
Drupal 5.14
FCKEditor 5.x-2.2
Only in Internet Explorer does this occur. In Firefox it is fine when having default state enabled.
NEVERMIND, I found another JS file that caused the problem. It had to do with hiding and showing divs.
The declaration of the variable was on 2 lines and Firefox was ok for this but IE wasn't. When you write JS it has to be written clean without too much white space or you have errors.
This was the line that was screwing up in some other JS file:
var divs =
document.getElementsByClassName('hiddentoggle');
should be:
var divs = document.getElementsByClassName('hiddentoggle');
