I have several content types that have comments, and I'd like to employ fckeditor on all but one field. Unfortunately it looks like "edit-comment" is the only ID available for specifying removing the editor from comment fields, which removes it from all of them.

wwalc commentedThis will be (is already) solved in 6--2. At this moment in Drupal 5.x the only way to do it is to modify the fckeditor.module.

SamRose commentedOk, makes sense. Appreciate the guidance, and looks easy enough to do.
PS. for educational purposes, how is it solved in D6 ? Is it done through admin interface?

apmsooner commentedthere will be an id for for exlcluding the field under the field itself. Copy and paste that id into the FCK settings visibility > exclude section.
