I have inherited a website that will eventually be Drupal 7 and go over to CKeditor. For the time being though, I need to have a way to add the table button to the Basic Toolbar we are using. Is it as simple as grabbing 'table' and adding it into the Basic Toolbar line-up of options?

You should look in fckeditor.config.js and copy the buttons you want to use to the basic toolbar.
