extra spaces and button position

With stock Garland I am seeing extra space (4-5 rows) inserted between the button and the node links. BTW, maybe it would be better to add the button after the node links or provide it also as an alternative (relocatable) block. As it is, FB user pictures automatically inserted after the body can affect adversely the layout. I am new to FB connection, so I don't know whether it is somehow possible to control the widget elements (pictures, text).
