I have been trying to fix this error for a few weeks, countless hours to no avail. I have read countless issue threads and I have read and re-read the install instructions and readme.txt.
I have a 'like' button which works great, and in the same block I have a 'connect' button which displays correctly, but does nothing when clicked. I expect a pop-up to open so a user can login via facebook and create a new account, or login to an existing account. also, I have a button 'invite friends to join the app'. this button opens a pop-up which directs to facebook, but nothing is displayed and the url redirects to error.facebook (but still nothing is displayed).
I desperately need some assistance in getting these buttons to work correctly and would be happy to offer a support fee to anyone who can fix or tell me how to fix these issues.
Is there a way to completely remove the module and all related MySQL tables so that I can start fresh? I have tried disabling the module, deleting it from my modules directory, then re-installing, but when re-installed the data from the database tables is still there.

trapper-1 commentedwhen i come to the last resort of asking others for help, I always then find the solution.
I had other 'like' buttons on the page with js. removed that stuff and everything is working great.

haopei commentedI also have the same problem.
I am currently using this SDK: https://github.com/facebook/php-sdk/zipball/v2.1.2 per the recommendation of this thread: http://drupal.org/node/1166272

vinoth.3v commentedafter removing my external facebook js include (for send button) it works.
dont forget to clear the cache.
haopei commentedHello vinoth,
Which facebook js include might you be referring to?
EDITED: I've removed all facebook related modules such as Addthis, and it works.

Dave Cohen commentedGlad it's fixed.

vegardjo commentedSorry for reopening this. I had the same problem, and it was fixed the same way. I removed my AddThis buttons and my Like box and Facebook Connect works again (popup opens).
Thing is that it's not exactly optimal to have to choose between Connect *or* Like functionality. In this case I would like a global FB Connect button in the header, Like / share functionality on all articles, and also a global Like box in the footer, which I believe is a very common scenario.
So,
(using 7.x.3-dev BTW)

Dave Cohen commentedDoes this clause from the README.txt help you?

vegardjo commentedAh, sorry I didn't catch that one! Thanks! Indeed, removing the script from the original embed code fixed the problem, and I now have both Connect and Like working at the same time!
FYI (re #6): Addthis embed code did not conflict with Connect on my site, but I'm not using the Addthis Drupal module, just the embed code from Addthis directly.

matiaslezin commentedI had the same issue. The problem was that I had twice:
window.fbAsyncInit = function() I guess the id="fb-root" was causing a problem as it was repeating itself. Removed one of them and now it works perfectly!
