I am using 7.x-1.x-dev (2011-Feb-25). I can't limit the number of FAQs in my Random FAQ block. I have 3 categories with several FAQs in each category. The block becomes as big as a page since it gets bigger with each added FAQ. It seems to just ignore the "number of faqs to show" setting.

That block is now provided by Views and so you need to edit the Views config and set it there. Not sure where you see the "number of faqs to show" setting - that was removed along with the block code that contained it....
