Date and Time Formatting

This seems like it should be simple, but I cannot figure out how to change the displayed date/time format for events. I installed Date API and Date modules as well since the documentation seemed to suggest this.

In Administer => Site Configuration => Date and Time I can edit the long/medium/short formats and add custom ones, but when I create or edit an event node there's no option to change the date/time format.

I also checked Administer => Site Configuration => Events and Administer => Content Management => Content Types => Event and found nothing related to date/time format.

Drupal 6.16, all modules up to date.
