(NB Sorry if this has been mentioned specifically before, but I couldn't find a solution, or it listed as a unique issue).

If you want to use an entity reference field as as an exposed contextual filter on a view, you have to type in the Node ID to return the correctly filtered results. Typing in the title of the node returns no results.

(You can use the select filter option - but this is only designed to work for small number of nodes).

This seems a little counter-intuitive as site users won't know the Node ID of nodes they are looking for, they will know the title of the node. So it would make more sense to allow the user to search for the node title.

I think what you are looking for is adding a relationship to the entity reference then adding a exposed filter on the the node title.

I think this should yield the behaviors you are expecting.
