I think if this module is extended so that any attribute (content type, updated date, etc) that come with entities would be a great addition.

Good call! I'll have to look into the interaction with derivers a bit maybe, since they are based on entities all having the attributes right now.

For instance, if you reference a block, the deriver ends up being default_descriptive:block now, which would change if you reference another entity. Since everything has the entity id which is added right now it works, but having custom stuff in the label is definitely within scope.
