Hi, is there anyway to pass parameters to a widget so that it can pass these on to its sources ?

For sources made from Views, yes. Also, if a module defines a source that accepts arguments, you can give it parameters. Otherwise, regular 'page' and 'block' type widget sources can't yet be passed parameters.
