This would probably require some major reworking of this module, but as flexindoe becomes used more and module like event and location show the possiblities of module selection by node type, I figured it was a good idea to throw out there.
If any the admin/node/configure pages let users select if a node type was a product and part of the ecommerce system, this would provide a ton of flexibility to the module in terms of product types and let the module focus purely on the back end commerce aspect. Just an idea.

moshe weitzman commentedNot sure if you realize this, but any node can become a product already. It's type has nothing to do with it. Please re-open with some specifics of what is desired if this is insufficient.

jasonwhat commentedI'm an idiot. Well I just haven't used this in awhile and forgot that there is a "product" tab. The only change that might be good is the ability to specify that a node type is always a product so that users that don't have general "create product" permissions could create certain products in a more controlled way. For example, there may be an event node type that always requires a registration fee and admin would want someone creating a new instance of that node type to have it be a registration fee "product," but doesn't want those users having permission to turn any node into a product. Hope that makes sense, but let me know if it doesn't and I'll try to clarify.
