Checkoutapi() allows developers manipulate the checkout process to add new shipping methods, discounts, taxes and a slew of other things. The next step is to free up the transaction workflow to provide a storage mechanism for checkoutapi.
I'm considering a store_transaction_api() that can be invoked by any module. Here are the $ops:
view - viewing a transaction (aka invoice)
load - a transaction is being retrieved
insert, update - write the transaction to the DB
Thoughts?

jjeff commentedDo it!
I've got a couple of modules (international shipping and shipping calculator) that need to store information along with the transaction (shipping surcharge, shipping method, shipping cost, shipping weight, shipping value, insurance, etc...).
It's important that these things remain part of the transaction for display on invoices, etc...
