ELMS Compliance Distribution (ECD) is a distribution for helping institutions manage all kinds of compliance processes. While being able to be installed as a stand alone, this really shined when plugged into ELMSLN. ELMSLN has functionality that will automatically pipe things that need compliance reviews into ECD in order to make that a separate process that doesn't need wrapped up in the rest of the designed systems in the network.
Some compliance issues this will help tackle / make more accountable:
- Granting of access to systems outside of traditional parameters (student needs to finish up a past semester's work but no longer has access, instructor is doing a quality audit of a fellow faculty member, department head is reviewing courses). This adds a level of transparency as well as allows access requests to be handled in a more ad-hoc P2P manner.
- Accessibility - Content that has been detected to have potential accessibility issues (on save / creation) can be shipped off to ECD to flag that it needs further review. This allows for current workflows of content production and modification to happen but without falling out of compliance by accident
- Quality audit - Date stamp the last time courses / systems were reviewed for quality. Currently this is usually handled by spreadsheets and other less efficient methods
- Copyright - copyright management and compliance of things detected to require accompanying copyright material. This allows (for example) the ELMSMedia system to not have to have copyright data stored, but compliance can help ensure it is still "on the books". Courses in ELMSLN will also be able to look up copyright data against this source when it is detected that it is needed.
