I'd like to use this one with the customized backgrounds. Got it working with another theme, but on this, not sure what the right setting is to get it to show in place of the background. Anyone get this working on this theme?

Responsiveness in a theme is much more important in the current stage of the internet than backgrounds. The Responsive theme looks like a great one, and I would work within its framework if I had a choice rather than choosing the background as your primary objective. A background image on a cell phone interface may not work well at all, while it might be moderately visible on a tablet and look normal on a laptop or desktop. The responsive theme is using colors that are based on code and that interact with Drupal's core color picker feature, so you have a lot of flexibility there. Also, you can easily link a background image to the existing Responsive theme without needing an additional module to do it, so you might try that also.
