It would be mighty useful to include an 'Administrative comment' tab per view mode manage display setting.

An example of where this would be useful is when using a modular system of view modes across multiple content types.

Would this be useful to others?

UPDATE:

Perhaps an improvement to an administrative comment tab (On a view mode) would be an autogenerated list of where the view mode is used in the frontend / backend. On a DS heavy site I can see the advantage of a linked reference list.

That's an interesting feature. I wonder whether this should be a core thing - although I can imagine it might take a while before this would get in though. I'll have a quick experiment next week to see how fast I can figure out where a view mode is used.

This is really had to get right, this should rather live in core somewhere, or even a different module since it's not necessarily related to DS anyway.
