I just built a site and installed Display Suite, along with some other contributed modules (including Chaos Tools 7.x-1.2+6-dev (2012-Oct-11) and Date 7.x-2.6), and a Zen 7.x-5.1 sub-theme. Right out of the box, this error appeared at the top of certain pages (admin/modules, admin/structure/types/manage/*/fields, admin/config/development/performance after clearing cache):

Notice: Undefined index: zen in _ds_ds_layout_info() (line 406 of /my-site-directory/sites/all/modules/ds/includes/ds.registry.inc).
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in _ds_ds_layout_info() (line 410 of /my-site-directory/sites/all/modules/ds/includes/ds.registry.inc).

In admin/reports/log the following is logged:

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in _ds_ds_layout_info() (line 410 of /my-site-directory/sites/all/modules/ds/includes/ds.registry.inc)

After updating Display Suite from 7.x-2.0 to 7.x-2.0+7-dev (2012-Oct-26), the error on admin/modules went away still appears on admin/structure/types/manage/*/fields and admin/config/development/performance, and the second error is still appearing in admin/reports/log.

Which zen subtheme? Also, this is likely either a Drupal Core bug or a bug of the subtheme.

> Which zen subtheme?

Just a cloned STARTERKIT subtheme, not customized beyond the standard renaming all references to "STARTERKIT".

To rule out the possibility that I'd made a mistake while creating the subtheme, I repeated the STARTERKIT cloning creation process again and made the new one the default theme, and I still saw the errors. Then I switched back to Bartik, and the errors went away.

Strange that I'm using the same version of Zen and other contributed modules on other sites, under the same version of Drupal, and not having this problem. Confusing.

I've really tried everything to reproduce this with the latest zen en ds, but I can't seem to trigger the notice, not sure what's going on.
