There are two types of views display views, the most usual "views templates" and the less usual "fields".
I am using the second type of view and they work fine, except for their use of ds custom fields.
But when I try to create a ds custom field type even one as elementary as a code field with simple line of html, it does not appear in the list of candidates in the layout manager for the "field" type view. They do however appear in layouts for "view templates" type view.

Maybe I have misunderstood how these custom fields are supposed to work and there is a simple workaround of creating a custom field in the view and this will appear as a data item in layout manager but I would rather use a ds custom field.

I'm having the exact same problem. Same version (7.x-1.5) on a minimal D7 install.

Looks like I just had to select a layout for my display to get the display suite fields to show up.

Thanks Alexverb. When you go to Views Displays (Home>Administration>Structure>Display suite>Views display) and you selected your view from the drop down was the view you selected suffixed with (Views template) or (Fields)?
The problem I am experiencing is only with (Fields) type views. These are created by choosing "Display suite fields" under Format Show section when setting up your view. Are you using this type of setup?

I'm sorry, seems like I was talking about a whole other thing:
admin/structure/types/manage/content-type/display

I was unable to get the fields to show up on the display until I selected a layout. And can't really help you on the views stuff.

Status: Active » Closed (works as designed)

They don't show up there indeed, it's extremely hard to get this working.

Hi Swentel,
I still have this problem and I wonder if there has been any solution posed for it?
Regards.
