When creating fields using hook_ds_fields_info, setting the following does not allow the fields to be shown on the manage display form for the "default" view mode:

That's not the right behavior in my opinion. If you want to show fields on default, people should just add 'default' as well. Default does not equal full, so setting this to won't fix.

Then perhaps we could update the documentation a little better in the API? It just seemed rather confusing and took me longer than I feel was necessary to figure this out.

Issue summary: View changes

better yet allow the admin to choose which view is the default. I am using the 'Full Content' view so that I can put field in block regions. However, I cannot figure out how to make the 'Full Content' view the default view.

I understand now. The default view is the display view if Full Content views is not defined... UNLESS a layout is defined for the default view. I had to remove the layout for the default view for the Full Content view to become the default.
