1. What happens to my existing Drupal forum? Does it get imported into vb, or do I lose my 18 months of archived posts? Sorry but I didn't see this in the docs anywhere.

2. How about security issues in VB? I don't really keep up with forum software, but I understand that VB is a frequent target of attacks due to its ubiquity.

3. Advanced forum & flatforum, do they affect anything in DrupalVB?

1. DrupalvB does not alter your Drupal site in any way.

2. Based on the code I've seen so far and the periodical security updates, I'd say that vB is relatively secure. Drupal is more robust though.

3. See 1. - no.

Hm, so I'd have to start over with the forum, and just have a link to the old forum if people wanted to search? I've got a lot of useful posts in the old forum.

Well, no one forces you to use vB... Actually, I'd discourage from doing so, since Drupal is awesome. The primary argument for using vB is probably performance on large-scale sites, i.e. more than 100.000 users and at least the same amount of forum posts - this is where Drupal core's forum implementation starts to suck and people start to think about faster alternatives.

Jeez, so defensive already? I'm just asking, and now it's nobody forces me to use the product? Frankly, Drupal's stock forum is a horrible abomination, which killed most of the talking on my website when I implemented it. All of my regular posters hated it, and I don't disagree with them. I've been trying to find some sort of solution, and Drupal VB looks like it might bring some normality to my forum. But jeez, if I'm going to ask some questions and support immediately says, "you don't have to use our product", well that's not particularly encouraging...what happens when I run into some real problems?

Heh. That wasn't meant defensive, but offensive to use Drupal modules instead ;) Michelle, catch, and Morbus Iff are working hard on getting a better a user experience regarding forums into Drupal. Parts of their work will hopefully be included in Drupal 7. I agree that Drupal's stock forums still need a considerable amount of tweaking and theming to get a similar result as with vB or other dedicated forum software - however, that doesn't make the installation, configuration, and usage of DrupalvB easier. Please bear in mind, this is an integration module, which connects two completely different systems to some extent. Integrating two systems should be considered as advanced/expert usage. It should work out of the box after re-configuring both systems, but in the end, its success on integrating vB into Drupal heavily depends on the customizations made in both systems (ideally none). It is possible that you will face unexpected behaviors like #332057: Can't login to the forum, which almost cannot be solved remotely. I am providing support to some extent in this issue queue, but it is also possible that you may experience problems that can only be debugged and solved with direct access to your site and a fair amount of work.

I hope I clarified all points this time.
