so far the most common improvement that could be made to instructions is that they could be written as instructions vs general information or explanations

guiding notions:

  • Productivity > perfect insight: Ladders assume either the reader a) just needs a reminder of already familiar tasks or b) needs to get a task done on behalf of a colleague who understands it thoroughly
  • Most info is already familiar: Ladder titles let an experienced reader follow without laboring over skills they already have. Any explanations or other 'non-step' content an author wants to add should be in a field other than the title.
  • High-level ladder titles should describe an objective that could be accomplished with many different choices approach or tool (even inf for now we're only describing one)
  • Ladders titles start with a verb
