I receive this error when trying to bring up drupal for the first time on a new installation. I am running Ubuntu Linux 6.06, Apache 2, PHP5, and MySql

Fatal error: Call to undefined function session_set_save_handler() in /var/www/drupal/includes/bootstrap.inc on line 747

What did I do wrong?
Thanks
Rex
