I'm surprised I couldn't find any existing requests for this, given that I've seen many hacks for adding new profile field types to profile.module. Apologies if I missed something, or have posted this in the wrong place.

Basically, my suggestion is that profile.module adopt a system similar to flexinode, making the addition of new profile field types simpler.

Currently, if you need a profile field not of a type already included, you have to hack the code in several places.

I guess we can safely won't fix this as there are now Fields in Core.
