On my hosting space, which is a shared Microsoft server (sync.es) the uploads don't work. Instead of:

http://aithne.net/g/drupal/files/myfile.jpg

it has this:

http://aithne.net/g/drupal/files/_0

listed as the uploaded file.

I don't see those files, 404. But, Drupal doesn't support MS IIS as a webserver. Just try an other hosting server, which use LAMP, there's a lot!

closing, nobody cares and I know file uploads work on other instances of IIS.
