Problem/Motivation

We are maintaining multiple Drupal applications for an enterprise organization for the past 7 years. As part of continuous development and support, we regularly upgrade Drupal core versions to ensure that our applications stay up to date with the latest improvements, security updates, and features introduced in core.

According to the official Drupal core release schedule documentation:
https://www.drupal.org/about/core/policies/core-release-cycles/schedule,
Drupal 11.4 stable release is tentatively scheduled for the week of June 22, 2026 (UTC).

Based on this timeline, we have aligned our internal upgrade planning and delivery schedules. Any changes or delays in the release timeline could impact our project planning and delivery commitments.

We would like to request confirmation or an updated estimate for when the Drupal 11.4 stable version is expected to be officially released.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Refer to the Drupal core release cycle schedule documentation.
  2. Identify the planned release timeline for Drupal 11.4.

We're running late due to a couple of factors:

1. Two recent security releases for Drupal core

2. Multiple off-schedule patch releases due to security releases in Drupal's dependencies that were only released via minor versions, requiring Drupal core releases so that sites could update.

The combination of these two has meant that much of the past 3-4 weeks of core release manager time has been spent around releasing things that are not 11.4.0 itself.

#3600889: Remove some minor constraints from core-recommended is open to try to lessen the impact of #2 in the future, but it will only help for the next year if we make that change in 11.4, while simultaneously being quite late to make that change relative to when we'd normally want to (e.g. before beta ideally), so for now we are holding the release until that discussion is resolved in one direction or the other. I've been doing my best to push that issue forwards. Making the change in a patch release would be even harder to resolve.

My best hopeful estimate for an 11.4.0 release would be 'some time next week' assuming we can come to consensus on the above issue soon, but it could be a couple of weeks if we either can't come to a conclusion on that issue, or if our dependencies do another round of minor releases fixing security advisories.

Hopefully the delay will mean that we're able to lessen the disruption due to off-schedule patch releases over the next 6-12 months, or if we don't that we at least considered our options and decided to stick it out as we've been going so far.

I think this is really a support request.

I also added a note of the release schedule page for this.
