In order to grant users permission to "Edit own content", permission to "administer filters" must also be granted.

This bug occurs with a fresh install of Drupal 6.9 with only core modules enabled. Set only permissions to create/edit content. Affected accounts do not see the view/edit tabs. Add permission to administer filters and they then get the tabs and the ability to edit.

I have made a similar experience but with a Drupal 5.15 installation. I want a specific user role to have the rights to change pages. I granted rights to "edit page content" to "edit page content", I even once ticked all the boxes in the node module access control. To no effect. As soon as I grant this role the right to "administer filters" it works.

I can confirm this highly annoying bug - and it's solution mentioned.

It took me over an hour to get here, and then 2 seconds to fix it.

thank you kay_v and Axel_v !

This really needs to be sorted out for Drupal newcomers would go crazy.

Thanks again!

You don't need to assign the 'administer filters' permission, you just need to make sure the user role that has the 'edit x content' permission has access to the input filter itself. Go to admin/settings/filters and click the 'configure' link for the input format used by the content type.

First - my bad.

This sounds logical, but still is a bit confusing.

I understand that this way a user who has no permission to use the "Full html" filter would not be able to edit a node which has been saved using that filter, but it seems that there should be some other way around this, or at least a specific indication that this is the case.

maybe have a message indicating: "This content has been saved using a filter which you are not authorized to use, and so even though you do have sufficient permissions to edit nodes of this type, you cannot edit this node".

Just a bit confusing... but i'm not sure this is a bug ;)

Thanks!

I had the same issue.

I wanted to disable the Editing option because the change on Title changes the URL of the page as well so until I find a better solution I want to disable the Edit Own Blog option but it didnt work.

This is a bizarre bug. I was going nuts trying to figure out why I was not getting an edit link on content OWNED by the login I was using. Granting administer filters "fixed" it, which I have to put in quotes since this is not something I want users in the role to be able to do.

Just an update, the other issue #91663: Permission of text format is not checked when editing an entity and instead reset to something a user can use. is getting a look for a possible backport to D6.
Fingers crossed.

It's really not good, but as a workaround I have granted Administer Filter rights to the affected user role.
