Other contrib updates to share
0️⃣ Who is here today? Comment in the thread below to introduce yourself.
| bircher | Hi, I am Fabian and I co-coordinate the CMI2 and maintain a couple of config modules |
| wouter | Wouter from Belgium. |
| alexpott | Hey I’m alexpott and I also help co-ordinate CMI2 and maintain some other stuff too. |
| mikemadison | Mike Madison from Acquia, based in Seattle |
| mtodor | Hi, Mladen here .. maintainer of update_helper module. I’ll probably just ready topics .. |
| moshe | Moshe here. Boston |
1️⃣ Do you have suggested topics you are looking to discuss? Post in this thread and we'll open threads for them as appropriate.
| mikemadison | Apologies if this has been brought up before, but has CMI 2 considered scoping features out of contrib modules like Config Split, Config Ignore, etc. into core? |
| mikemadison | Or, providing like-features? |
| moshe | Are you referring to moving functionality from contrib to core? Yes, we have been doing that, including adding parts of the modules you mentioned. See config transformer and https://www.drupal.org/node/3079028 |
| mikemadison | that's awesome! i hadn't come across that feature |
| mikemadison | i was definitely thinking more broadly than just excluding specific modules. |
| mikemadison | conditional config (e.g. the config split use case) is something my teams use on basically every project, even if it's just environment based |
| mikemadison | and of course with multisite, there are many many applications of config that core config doesn't support out of the box (even as simple as the site name in system.site) |
| moshe | See #3033427: [plan] Add support for environment-specific configuration |
| mikemadison | thanks for sharing |
2️⃣ Installing from config and install hooks of profiles
| bircher | https://www.drupal.org/node/2982052 |
3️⃣ Documentation for deployment
| bircher | We now have hook_deploy_NAME in drush :banana-dance: :tada::partywizard: |
| bircher | but we also need to document best practices and differences between deployments and contrib module development |
| bircher | @alexpott suggested this toppic in the preparation of this meeting. |
| alexpott | I wonder if we should open github (or other public git tool of your choice) repo… and start creating a deployment guide |
| alexpott | topics should include config, updating code, content etc… |
| alexpott | And we add everyone who want to contrib to the repo… and once it’s stable we close it and move to drupal.org or into core |
| bircher | We can also consider closing #2901418: Add hook_post_config_import_NAME after config import |
| bircher | @alexpott do you want to start such a git repo for documentation? I have some slides from presentations from years ago from which I could copy but I don't really know what the best structure would be etc.. |
| alexpott | Sure - I will do this tomorrow |
