What is the point of "fields" like Authored By being listed in Manage Form Display when moving them around has no effect?

Moving the fields to 'Disabled' removes them from the form.

Hmm.. I see. So a bit of a UX "hack". It provides a use that the UI can't better handle while suggesting it is consistent with the other items on the form.

Thanks for the reply; I see why it is there now. But, hopefully others consider this a bug.

Drupal 8.8.7 was released on June 3, 2020 and is the final full bugfix release for the Drupal 8.8.x series. Drupal 8.8.x will not receive any further development aside from security fixes. Sites should prepare to update to Drupal 8.9.0 or Drupal 9.0.0 for ongoing support.

It's not a bug, as @idebr points out you can disable them, and also reorder fields within the tabs. There is a related feature request to make those fields a bit more customisable in the UI - #3165273: Allow node form tabs to be reordered.

Changes to this would generally be feature requests, so if there is something additional that you would like these fields to do that is not already mentioned in the request linked, you can create a new feature request for it.
