Maybe this is reported already or intended behaviour, but I liked how it was with D6.

Now the User Name is not shown as default block title in the Navigation menu.

Can somebody tell me why that is and how I can change that again?

I have the same problem and for me it means I cannot upgrade to D7 (my users would be confused, I have different users on one computer/browser).
I change the priority to major.

Thanks for the bug report but this is intentional, #925778: User edit title is broken (so is beta1-beta2 upgrade path) have added user_menu_title. You are welcome to read that issue or do further git archeology to find where / why it was changed. Once you found it and think that issue was unreasonable please tell in the issue why that reason was wrong and reopen this issue as a normal task for Drupal 8.

I have read http://drupal.org/node/925778 but cannot find the part about the navigation menu that loses its title. Can you give me some hints where to look in the issue (it is quite a bit of text, and I have read it all twice!).
That issue is about the user menu, not the navigation menu. See also http://drupal.org/node/986100.

Git is a little bit difficult for me (Netbeans on iMac...), maybe I will give it a trie.

In the mean time, definately not major.
