Needs a patch, though.

jensimmons commentedI would love to be considered to be a Markup Maintainer for Core.
I would like some clarification about what such a role entails, and doesn't entail — and most importantly, about the vision for the markup in Drupal 8.
As I'm sure you know, I am very interested in HTML5, and re-writing Drupal's default markup in HTML5. Before I am chosen as a markup maintainer, we need some clarification about the priorities and plans for HTML5 in Drupal 8. I don't want to be a mark-up maintainer if Drupal 8 is not going to incorporate HTML5 elements. If Drupal 8 is going to implement HTML5 markup, I would love to be a maintainer facilitating this vision. But then I don't want us to have several maintainers who fundamentally disagree about whether or not HTML5 is a good idea, fighting the whole time about the vision as a whole. Of course, there's lots of debate to have about the details of implementation, and I welcome those discussions with the whole community. But the markup maintainers can't have completely different ideas about the roadmap of where we are going, and at the same time together provide constructive and helpful leadership.

Crell commentedThe devil is in the details, but I am firmly in the HML5-Yes camp for Drupal 8 and support Jen taking point in that effort.

Jeff Burnz commentedre#8, can't speak for sun or jacine but sun has indicated approval for HTML5 and jacines sky theme is HTML5. In any case Jen, dissent is not always a bad thing, you often bring a certain realism to an argument, I think you will we be a good influence. In any case you can bet your bottom dollar there are going to be epic discussions regarding HTML5 implementations, that's just a given;)
xjmI think since the HTML5 initiative was announced, most of the questions in #8 have been addressed. @jensimmons, are you still interested in doing this?
If so we'll need to reroll the patch. ;)
Jeff Burnz commentedI think its pretty clear this is probably not going to happen and i would withdraw my support given Jen has not
been active in core dev for over a year.
xjmClosing since it looks like this is no longer happening.
