i assume that in 7, forum is going to be dropped from core, and this will take it's place?

i always thought advanced forum was started with the goal to enhance the forum module to provide a phpbb-esque forum, so why is there another another forum enhancement / replacement module?

does that mean that michelle is, in effect, now wasting her time developing af?

Drubb uses Advanced Forum, that's one of the dependencies. It is adding additional functionality to it.

None of this is likely to go into core in D7.

Your assumptions are incorrect, George. This project is mostly a way to tie a bunch of modules together into a phpBB-style forum that will do a lot of the work for you. The idea is to gather the data and pre-configure Drupal and set everything up.
