Here's what we have so far:
dependencies[] = advanced_forum
dependencies[] = bbcode
dependencies[] = install_profile_api
dependencies[] = privatemsg
dependencies[] = search
dependencies[] = smileys
dependencies[] = views
There are likely more as well.
Views isn't strictly required yet, but soon will be, I'm quite sure. ;)

Comment #1
webchickAdded flatcomments to the list of dependencies. This prevents comments from being threaded, which eliminates the chance for weird crap like deleting comment #1 and having comments #2 and #3 deleted beneath it since they were seen as "child" comments.
Comment #2
webchickAdded upload and comment_upload to the list. This allows forum visitors to upload attachments.
Comment #3
webchickAdded Signatures for Forums module as well, which allows signatures on nodes.

michellere #2: That won't be needed if we're using nodes for comments. Would make more sense to add an imagefield.
http://drupal.org/node/227121 has a list of forum related modules you might want to consider.

webchickAlso added http://drupal.org/project/comment_subject to the list, which handles automatic "Re: Parent thread" subjects on comments.
We will need something equivalent when we go to node comments.
@Michelle: Oh? That field is only for images? For some reason I was thinking we could put whatever we wanted in there...
But generally, you're right. There are a few of these modules that aren't required for comments as nodes, but my goal atm is to try and get this module so it can set up all of the basic stuff as soon as possible so we can then swap in the more betterer stuff once it's working. :)

michelleAh, true, my brain was stuck on attaching photos but you might want to attach other things. In that case, change imagefield to filefield in my line of thought... :)

webchickEh. I'm closing this. If you want to know module dependencies, look in the .info file. ;)
