I got directed to http://www.mozilla.org/contribute/ today, and this looks completely awesome: nice graphics denoting the various areas, a way to view by either groups of interest or time available!

Our contribute page, on the other hand, is basically a big boring list of headings with links off to more links, and does very little to promote the awesome benefits of getting deeper involved in the Drupal community.

I would love to entertain ideas on how we can make it more inviting and useful.

The whole Mozilla web site is more flashy and pretty than the Drupal web site. It would seem strange to me to make the Contribute page flashy and graphics-rich, when the rest of d.o is very blue and bland. I'm not against changing the copy or organization or layout, but unless the entire d.o site is redesigned, I don't think pretty graphics would be in character with the rest of the site.

It was also discussed on an IRC channel recently that "Contribute" is not a very inviting name for the tab -- at first glance, it sounds like d.o is asking for donations of money, so not that many people would actually click the tab to find out how they can get involved with the project. The Mozilla page is titled "Get involved", which sounds much more inviting to me, and is more representative of what is actually on our current "Contribute" page.

I like the idea - but I would think this would best be done post-redesign so that whatever is done matches the new theming. That might lend better to having some more images or snazziness (which would be nice). I never thought about the word "contribute" interesting...

adding d.o redesign tag, in case someone feels like taking this on during the redesign, otherwise will pick it back up then.

I think that we should just mark this as "fixed", since the new drupal.org is not even going to have Contribute as a main nav landing page, and of course all of its main landing pages have been redesigned and are very inviting. There seems to be little point in putting any effort into the Contribute page, given that someone would have to specifically type in its URL to even get there. Maybe it should be deleted, but even that doesn't seem necessary at this moment...
