We had a discussion on the docs mailing list on how to handle documentation for unsupported versions, but the desicions haven't been added to http://drupal.org/documentation-writers-guide yet. Suggestion for added text:

Unsupported versions
Pages which are completely about unsupported versions: Edit the title so it starts with "OUTDATED:", move it to the book Archive.
There are a few exceptions. The following handbook sections will continue to hold information about old versions:

Pages which have information about both old and new versions can be edited to describe only current versions. (The outdated information will still be available via the "Revisions" tab.)

Relevant mailing list discussions:
http://lists.drupal.org/pipermail/documentation/2008-February/thread.html "Where do old handbook pages go to die?"
http://lists.drupal.org/pipermail/documentation/2008-March/005941.html

If this is a correct description of how we want to do it, then everything under http://drupal.org/getting-started/4.x is headed for the archive. (The landing page itself should probably stay there, containing a link to the upgrade instructions and a warning about using unsupported versions.)
