Currently, the main structure of the Site Building Guide is quite flat, with a long mix of many topic-specific sections (like Commerce and Advertising, Social Networking and Collaboration, etc.) and a few general site building guides (like Best practices, Contributed modules, Distributions, etc.):

    Contributed modules
    Best practices
    Site builder's toolkit
    Access Control
    Actions, Triggers, and Workflow
    Commerce and Advertising
Connecting to other Sites, Systems, and Data
    Content Display Modules
    Content Modules
    Content Recommendation
    Dates and Events
    Distributions
    Documentation tools
    E-Mail and Messaging
    Forms
    Geographic Information
    Input formats
    Media and Files
    Search
    Search Engine Optimization
    Site building: beginner, intermediate, advanced
    Social Networking and Collaboration
    User-Generated Content
    Utility
    HowTos
    Site recipes

Of those, the following are the topic-specific sections. In fact, they currently are documentation of contributed modules for specific site functionality:

    Access Control
    Actions, Triggers, and Workflow
    Commerce and Advertising
Connecting to other Sites, Systems, and Data
    Content Display Modules
    Content Modules
    Content Recommendation
    Dates and Events
    Documentation tools
    E-Mail and Messaging
    Forms
    Geographic Information
    Input formats
    Media and Files
    Search
    Search Engine Optimization
    Social Networking and Collaboration
    User-Generated Content
    Utility

And the general site building guides, now mixed with the previous ones, are:

    Best practices
    Contributed modules
    Distributions
    HowTos
    Site builder's toolkit
    Site building: beginner, intermediate, advanced
    Site recipes

It would help Drupal users to group the many specific functionality topics in a main section of the Site Buiding Guide. For this, for example the Theming Guide has two sections for core and contrib themes, but in the case of the modules it seems that a section title like "Contributed module documentation" is not currently recommended, since part of the contrib documentation is located in other places. For example, the Contributed modules section includes general module information, but also a subsection with an old alphabetical -not by topic- list of contributed module documentation.

Therefore, possible titles for the specific functionality section would be "Site features", or a clearer "Building the site features", as one of the main sections in the Site Building Guide. Another possible title can be "Building the site functionality", to prevent user confusion with the well-known Features module.

If it's OK, this is a quick task and I can do it. It seems clear that a little more order is needed in the building guide, but if there is a reason to keep the long mixed list, please say it. If there is not, then I will use "Building the site functionality" as a provisional title for the new functionality-specific section.

Some days already with no objection; grouping those topic-specific sections is indeed just a logical but quick fix for that long mixed list that can be improved later by the documentation team if needed. So, if there is not a better fix for now, I will do it this week.

It seems fixed now. The topic-specific guides are now in Building the site functionality, a new section of the Site Building Guide.
