Current hierarchy of the Style Structure and Guidelines section of contribute to docs:
Contribute to Docs http://drupal.org/contribute/documentation
-- Style, structure, and guidelines http://drupal.org/node/700542
---- Online documentation guidelines http://drupal.org/about/authoring
------ Online documentation structure http://drupal.org/documentation-writers-guide
------ Online documentation style guide http://drupal.org/node/338208
---- Commenting on handbook pages and API pages
---- Documentation copyright and licensing
---- Documentation issue reports
---- Screenshots and uploading images
I think that the Online Doc Guidelines page could be merged into Style Structure and Guidelines, thereby moving the two online doc structure/style guides up one level in the hierarchy. This would flatten the hierarchy by one level and make it easier to find the style guides.
If we do that, I would suggest making the alias http://drupal.org/about/authoring point to the Style, Structure, and Guidelines section page http://drupal.org/node/700542.
Possibly the order of pages in Style Structure Guidelines should also be adjusted a bit, too. I think Screenshots should be closer to the other pages about online doc guidelines, and the copyright page should be at the end (abbreviated content of that page is on every doc page already, and I bet that is the least visited page in that list).
And maybe the doc issue reports page belongs under How to Contribute vs. being in the guidelines section?
Thoughts? If arianek agrees, I can do the rearrange.

arianek commentedsounds good to me - also, just for reference, there are several other issues regarding style guides of various sorts and them needing merging/rearranging. i could find these, not sure if there a couple others floating around:
#936382: Align Handbook Styleguide with UI Best practices
#536862: Core User Interface Text Guidelines
#406782: Handbook style guide needs structural work

jhodgdonI've taken care of the rearranging, but I apparently don't have permission to do page aliases. Could you change the
about/authoring
alias to point to
http://drupal.org/node/700542
Thanks!
I'll take a look at these other issues too.

lisarex commentedI reassigned the about/authoring alias to node/700542, and redirected the old (unpublished) 22299 (where about/authoring was pointed).

jhodgdonLooks good! At least people hunting for about/authoring will be directed to the correct section of the doc. I think we can mark this issue fixed now. Thanks lisarex!
