I have a node type of Author that contains bios and images of authors. When I upload a publication, I want to select the document authors from this list. I can use "entity reference" to give me that select list, but it shows up under the required "Document Author(s)" field.

Is there any way to either remove the "Document Author(S)" field or replace it with the entity reference field that I described?

Same, issue with "Year of Publication"... I have many documents in the same year, and I need to be able to sort them by publication date. I can create a date field for publication date that allows month and day selection, but I need to either replace the "Year of Publication" field or remove it.
