There most likely will be a version for D7, but won't be until the D6 version becomes stable and feature complete.

Not sure why you referenced #281757: Dependent field module vs Conditional fields? as its referring to a completely separate, obsolete module.
That said, I agree that a merging of the two module for D7 would make quite a bit of sense on the face of it.
How much sense it'd make from the point of view of the developers though, I don't know.

The Conditional Fields module seems more active and it could implement Dependent Field's feature: #1220412: Ability to set value of the dependent field
