I was wondering if it is at all possible to do this

a model for the front page:

Node Row
Node Row
Node Row
Node Row

so that the node rows are displaying fields from nodes that belong to that day, which is easily achievable with nodequeue or views, but I'd like to have next/prev buttons around the title, which will be that day's date to slide future/past days/

I could perhaps make these views nodes and queue them sorted by their date field and slide the nodequeue?

there was a (prev) [date and title] (next) above the node rows, html filter ate it.

Better to use another module for this, which supports rotating whole nodes better.

You can have a look at http://drupal.org/node/418616
e.g. views_slideshow and ajax_slideshow provide better support for whole nodes.
