My searching of the issue queue didn't find this, but the attached patch will display the format code (e.g., l, F jS, Y) in the admin table at admin/settings/date-time/formats/custom.

I've found this handy when trying to remember the arcane formatting codes that PHP uses :)

Unfortunately the Drupal 6 version of the Date module is no longer supported. That said, we appreciate that you took time to work on this issue. Should this request still be relevant for Drupal 7 please feel free to reopen it. Thank you.
