Date filter for Views says "Leave both date and default values blank to start with no value in the exposed filter."
However, I have an exposed filter for date that accepts years, and even though nothing is set in absolute value, nothing in relative date, and to date is disabled, results are filtered by current year. You can see it at http://www.youthforum.org/en/documents -- no year is specified, yet documents are selected by year 2009.
When I look at the Views query, it indeed contains: AND (DATE_FORMAT(STR_TO_DATE(node_data_field_datepublished.field_datepublished_value, '%Y-%m-%dT%T'), '%Y') = '2009')
Any hope for a fix of this? Or is it fixed in the dev release? Thanks for any hint. Let m know if I can help by testing etc.

damienmckennaUnfortunately the Drupal 6 version of the Date module is no longer supported. That said, we appreciate that you took time to work on this issue. Should this request still be relevant for Drupal 7 please feel free to reopen it. Thank you.
