Karen,
If I am starting with a site using Date 6.x-2.0-rc6, should I upgrade first to 6.x-2.0, and then to 6.x-2.1 (2009-Mar-25) and then to 6.x-2.x-dev (2009-Apr-13) since it has many fixes, or can/should I go directly from 6.x-2.0-rc6 to 6.x-2.x-dev (2009-Apr-13)?
I have a production site still using Date 6.x-2.0-rc6, because I was a bit intimidated by the problems people were reporting when upgrading to 6.x-2.0. Based on my own halting attempts (still not got it right, but almost), and the accumulation of solutions that have been posted, I think I'm ready to try to upgrade, but am not sure if there are important DB modifications/updates performed by the intermediate versions that would be skipped if I went straight to the latest version 6.x-2.x-dev.
Thank you Karen, for your great work and contribution. I've seen that people have been a bit panicky, because this has not been the usual simple upgrade process people tend to expect. But once they know that, yes, they will probably *have* to go into their Views and CCK fields to finish the update process as per your new "Troubleshooting" statement on the Date module page, then at least it won't be so much a surprise when they upgrade and suddenly their calendar and upcoming events blocks are empty of events (as happened to me!). I'm guessing that I'm not the only person who has held off upgrading because of the panicky tone of the bug reports.
Thank you again!
Eric

gpk commentedEric,
In principle you should be able to upgrade direct from rc6 to dev. You won't "miss out" on any required updates by doing that. However I've hit 2 issues with repeating events that are making me think about going back to rc6 (which is slightly sub-optimal since I'm using Acquia Drupal which currently bundles 2.0). For reference, the issues are #409476: date_timezone_set() & date_format() error when editing CCK date repeating fields. and #416942: Repeating date not correctly showing.
I would say that if you've not hit any of the bugs in rc6 then stick with it for now. For info, there also seems to be an issue with Views 2.4+... #432368: Problems with exposed date filter.

ericm commentedThank you for the info, gpk!
My big motivation to upgrade is that I'm having problems with repeating events created by rules like "last tuesday of the month" and "second thursday of the month." They are skipping and misplacing dates, a lot like but not identical to #319452: Dates are missing for repeated dates, which I believe was fixed by 6.x-2.0-rc6. Unlike #416942: Repeating date not correctly showing, I see the problem in both Views and node display. But asking for help before upgrading to the latest version is lame, so I wanted to upgrade. If the latest -dev is still having various other problems with repeating events, I should wait. Thank you again.

gpk commentedI also have the missing date problem with node display, I should add that to #416942: Repeating date not correctly showing. Suggest you wait till that one is fixed then test dev on a "dev" site to see if your problems go away. If you think you have a different problem to the ones you mention you might want to do the test with the current dev version so that any further issues can be aired sooner.
In the name of issue queue tidiness, marking as fixed since I think your original question is answered. Feel free to re-open if you have further questions.
