A number of changes were committed to the 7.x-2.x branch since 7.x-3.0-alpha1 was released. Port these changes over to the 7.x-3.x branch.

All changes have been ported over, so now the 7.x-3.x branch has all of the same fixes as the 7.x-2.x branch.
