Dates CCK field displays wrong time zone

Hi,
Dates entered through a CCK field display show todays date ( user created time zone ) as default, but display USA New York time in the Format box below the CCK field. Please see attached image.

When using views to display content with todays date, it shows USA New York time zones rather than User created time Zone.

The sites default time zone is Australia, and all user created timezones are Australia, yet dates still show up in USA New York time.

I'm not sure if this is a views problem or a date problem
