choose sort order for select lists

I have a select list for years only displaying the last 100 years. By default, the first year in the list is 1908, when in fact I would prefer it to be the current year (today). However, I want the default to be blank.

Can an option be added to set the sort order for select fields, maybe by being able to reverse the logic in the "years back and forward" e.g. from "-100:+0" to "+0:-100" (this currently doesn't work).
