I think I can calculate an age from a date_select value however I was hoping to have the age updated upon a user changing the date thereby presenting one of two options depending on the age. Nothing seems to happen when changing any field in the date_select although I have specified an ajax callback. I am now 3 weeks on this simple, extremely common task but the documentation/forums etc. are not the place to learn new tricks. Even Pro Drupal 7 Development is no help here. Good lord and next I intend to do some hard things. Please Help.

This is a very old issue that may not still apply, plus there is not enough information to tell how to replicate the problem. The starting point would be to use the latest code. If there is still a problem there I need exact details on what you are trying to do -- how the field and widget are configured and exactly what you are trying to do with ajax.
