I'm wondering if its possible to use a multiple dates field in a node and still have it appear only once in a views list?

Currently I'm just trying to attach dates to events, but in views its quite insistent that every time I add a new date to the event, I want it to show a duplicate in the list... Is there any way around this?
I'm using Views 7.x-3.0-beta3.

Although you seem to be saying two things, do you mean you don't want to see duplicates or you do?
