My goal is to reference an entire table (i.e., view) from a node - not just a few records. Do I need a module like ViewField or ViewReference for this or is it possible to do this via the Data Module alone?

Note: #961250: Clarifying the relationship/reference capabilities of the Data Module is a related issue that I created but I've kept them separate because one is a task, the other a support request.

If you just want to reference 'the whole table' then you could just do a quick hack with a list text field whose options happen to be the names of your tables.

You then have to decide what to do with the output.

If you actually want to show the whole table in your node as the output for the reference field, then a view reference might be the simplest way to go.

At any rate, this is a very very old support request so closing.
