I'am working on a project, that requires data from an external database.
This module is helping out just great as I only need the issue #864184 to be implemented.
After that patch is applied I am able to use the external table in views.

I would also like to have entity support too. I've written a patch that does just that.

Search API does work out of the box with Data entities but installing the previous patch It has problems indexing entities from a remote database as the indexing handler requests the entity id directly from the database. This module overrides this behavior and makes the remote entities available to search api.
