use of Ampersand in table name causes Adopt feature in UI to fail

I have an existing table in my DB called state_q&a - additionally (and unknown to factor into problem) I have a second table called state_documents. Using the Data module i've adopted the table for documents and it allows me views functionality as expected. Adding the second table with the Q&A suffix, the adopt button returns me to the initial UI screen in Structure | Data Tables without connecting or adopting the table. Renaming the table to 'state_qa' got expected functionality.
